DIP DYE, TIE DYE, DOUBLE DYE…oh the possibilities…
February is often the coldest month of the year, and a pair of cosy, woollen socks are all but essential to see you through till Spring, so why not join us and create your perfect (and sustainable) pair.
Join Ros of The Natural Dyeworks on Sunday 4th February from 9.00-11.00 for a fun morning of sock dyeing during this two hour workshop.
Natural dyeing is a process that uses botanical ingredients to dye fabrics in ways that have been used for thousands of years. It is petrochemical free, 100% natural, slow and sustainable.
Using Ros’s signature British Wool Socks, you will learn how to naturally dye them in a colour of your choice. There will be 3 different dye pots to choose from, enabling a range of different shades.
Dip dye, solid dye, tie dye or double dye - the possibilities for creating your bespoke socks are endless.
Ros will talk through simple steps for how to prepare wool for dyeing through scouring and mordanting. Working with dye baths created from foraged seasonal and kitchen ingredients and we will dye a few short lengths of yarn, which will be perfect for future darning.
We will discuss the different natural ingredients that can be used to create a wide palette of colours, responsible foraging and tips on what to look out for throughout the seasons.
This will be an informal, introductory workshop, suitable for beginners and you will learn the skills needed to continue your wool dyeing practice at home.
All materials will be provided and there will be a worksheet for you to keep as well as your yarn & socks.
Please bring an apron or wear old clothes that you wouldn’t mind getting marked.
